New Tax for Airbnb Rentals

On Monday, the Seattle City Council voted in favor of a per-night tax on short-term rental properties, such as Airbnb units, according to this Seattle Times article. This new tax is a part of the Council's effort to alleviate Seattle's housing crisis and plans to use the taxes to fund future projects that will create affordable housing.

This came on the heels of another major housing-affordability plan proposal that was introduced last Thursday by Mayor Burgess and Councilmember Rob Johnson: The Mandatory Housing Affordability (MHA) implementation plan will require new housing developers to contribute to Seattle’s affordable-housing supply.
